SYNOPSIS: A gang of jewel thieves get mixed up in a turf war in Iran circa 1970. I'll go out on a limb here and guess that there hasn't been a lot of films starring world famous actors shot on location in Iran. So, this might be a bit of a rare item. Stuart Whitman stars as "Tex", a tough natural born leader, trying to steal jewels from an Iranian museum. When the job goes bad he loses one man and hits the road to find his next score. Whitman and Olgilvy happen upon a dapper German (Jürgens) in the middle of a desert forest. Whitman pegs him for a fellow con man and they join forces. They all end up in a small village where the locals are terrorized by a desert clan chieftain (Mitchum). He wants a key to a hidden treasure which is somewhere in the village. Elke Sommer shows up late in the film as a possible double agent playing both sides to find the treasure for herself. Despite a slow start the film gets surprisingly robust with car / motorcycle chases, fights, explosions and shoot-outs. It's fun to see Jürgens in a rare comedic role providing some laughs since he was usually busy playing Nazis or torturing James Bond. Sexy Swede Elke Sommer looks great but she's the last person to be mistaken for an Iranian village girl! She does however provide some welcome nudity when she and Whitman hook up. Lastly, Jim Mitchum is terribly miscast as the leader of the rebels making little to no effort to look or sound like he's Iranian. Despite these casting mistakes it's a fun action entry.
