The Vindicator (1986)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Jean-Claude Lord (Visiting Hours, Mindfield)

STARS :David McIlwraith (If Looks Could Kill), Teri Austin (Raising Cain), Richard Cox (Cruising, Slow Burn), Pam Grier (Jackie Brown, Class of 1999), Maury Chaikin (WarGames, The Guardian)

SYNOPSIS: A murdered scientist is given new life, and a chance for revenge, in an experimental robotic suit. Here's an entertaining low budget sci-fi film from Canada. A scientist "Carl" (McIlwraith) works at an experimental lab where a new robotic program is being developed. He realizes this might be used for military purposes and complains to his evil boss. The next day Carl is killed in an accidental explosion at the lab. However, after the funeral the lab owner / villain reveals to the other scientists that Carl is alive in a suspended state. Together the group works on a new indestructible robotic exoskeleton to fit his horribly disfigured body. Ideally he will be a mindless soldier controlled by a computerized remote control device. The plan falls apart when Carl's memories begin to come back and he starts a campaign of deadly revenge. Frightened by his uncontrollable Frankenstein monster, the villain hires a professional "cleaner" (Pam Grier) to fix his problem. There's a good amount of action in this one with gunplay, explosions and fire gags. Pam Grier looks like she's having fun chewing up the scenery as the sexy killer for hire. Canadian film vet Maury Chaikin plays Carl's sympathetic co-worker who may have some ulterior motives of his own. FX legend Stan Winston (Aliens, Pumpkinhead) provided the cool robot suit. Despite having a number of similarities to Robocop this film was released a full year before that cult classic.
