Eat the Peach (1986)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Peter Ormrod

STARS: Stephen Brennan (The General), Eamon Morrisey, Catherine Byrne (Taffin), Niall Toibin

SYNOPSIS: Two friends, “Vinnie” and “Arthur”, lose their jobs when a local automobile factory closes down in a bleak Irish town. There are few prospects to make money so the men drown their sorrows at the town pub. When the old Elvis Presley film Roustabout plays on TV, Vinnie gets inspired. In the movie, Elvis rides his motorcycle inside the gravity-defying “Wall of Death” - an attraction where a motorcyclist drives inside a large rounded enclosure until he’s able to ride horizontally. Vinnie decides to build his own wall and possibly make some money. He convinces Arthur to help out and soon they’re cutting down trees (and even a few billboards) to build their dream. They also make some quick cash driving a truck, and smuggling alcohol and electronics, for a local crime figure. Vinnie’s wife and daughter aren’t too sure about his plan but support him as best they can. A variety of colorful characters come in and out of the story as they get ready for their grand opening. Fans of the low key comedies by Bill Forsyth (That Sinking Feeling, Gregory’s Girl, Local Hero, etc.) will enjoy this one. It was also one of Jonathan Demme’s favorite films. Never commercially released in widescreen. Our copy is 16:9 - WIDESCREEN. Bonus: Original theatrical trailer.
