PSYCHO GIRLS
dvd

(1986)

DIRECTOR: Jerry Ciccoritti (Graveyard Shift)

STARS: John Haslett, Darlene Mignacco, Rose Graham, Agi Gallus

SYNOPSIS: A pre-teen girl poisons her clueless parents and blames it on her sister Sarah. The innocent girl gets sent to an insane asylum for the next 10 years and loses her sanity. Eventually the adult Sarah (a memorable Agi Gallus) gets out and tracks down her sister for revenge. She finds her working as a housekeeper for a writer and his wife and knocks her off early in the story. The film is narrated by a crime novelist whose dialogue is a parody of hard-boiled detective films. He and his wife have a dinner party for their friends and everyone is so pretentious and annoying you'll be rooting for their demise. Little do they know that Sarah has presented herself, last minute, as a cook and doses the whole group with a knock-out potion. They all wake up in the now abandoned mental hospital tied to chairs with duct tape over their mouths. Thus begins their night of terror as Sarah and two of her old inmate pals play games, torture and kill. Characters are beaten, stabbed, shot and a topless woman is electrocuted in a bathtub. The film has a small amount of nudity and blood but mostly relies on the disturbing elements of the plot - it's like a cut-rate version of the dinner sequence from Texas Chainsaw Massacre but played more for laughs than outright horror. Once the action gets to the empty insane asylum, a great location, things pick up and there's an effective chase scene through the creepy old hallways.
