SYNOPSIS: Vietnam vets fight new battles in these two rare action films.
No Dead Heroes: In Vietnam an over-the-top Russian KGB agent, named Ivan, oversees a P.O.W. camp filled with American soldiers. Good guys Max Thayer and John Dresden are tough soldiers on a mission to save the prisoners. They are successful but Dresden gets captured by the enemy. Many years later the Russian commie, now with a phony gray beard, has a scientist implant a microchip device into Dresden's brain so he can control him as a mindless killing machine. Ivan's new scheme is running guns and drugs in El Salvador with a group of die hard soldiers. The C.I.A. enlists Thayer to join up with some rebels, defeat the Russian and maybe even save his old pal. Fast moving exploitation with lots of gunplay, explosions and bad dubbing.
Final Mission: Richard Young plays an experienced Vietnam war vet working as a S.W.A.T. team member in Los Angeles. After getting into some trouble for killing a bunch of gang members he's put on leave. He decides to go on a camping trip with his family. The remaining gang members enlist help from a disgraced soldier (Dresden) who clashed with Young during the war. They find the family at a lake and kill the wife and child by blowing them up! Young goes into Death Wish revenge mode and tracks down his family's murderers as they hide out in a small mountain town in which Dresden's brother is the crooked sheriff. Solid drama and action with Young very believable as the no-nonsense trained killer looking for justice. Eventually the cops and military close in on Young hiding out in the mountain forest ala First Blood. Recommended.
