The Last Chase (1981)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Martyn Burke

STARS: Lee Majors (Steel), Burgess Meredith (Clay Pigeon, Hard Contract), Chris Makepeace (Savage Hunger)

SYNOPSIS:
If you were a teen back in the early 80's you probably have fond memories of watching this harmless slice of Sci-Fi / action on cable television. A flop in theaters it has since gained a cult following. In the future after a worldwide plague, an oil shortage hits and the US government decides to outlaw all personal vehicles and pretty much anything that runs on gas. It's all public transportation or bicycles. Race car driver Lee Majors hides his Porsche and spends the next 20 years as a speaker at a Boston college. Facing some possible jail time he finally breaks down and takes his car out of storage to make a run for the "free state" of California. What follows is a futuristic cross country chase across the United States between Lee's car and a Sabre jet plane flown by kooky Korean vet Burgess Meredith (who's working for the authoritarian US government). Along the way Lee is joined by the world's first computer hacker played by Chris Makepeace (fresh off My Bodyguard). He helps jam the government's supercomputer. It's kind of like Logan's Run meets Fahrenheit 451 with a little Rollerball mixed in. There's plenty of action, great scenery and some laughs. The film's score by Gil Mellé is memorable. Shot in Canada and Arizona. WIDESCREEN.
