Two Programs on 1 DVD
DIRECTOR: Paul Williams (both programs)
STARS (voices): Black Planet: Brian Hannan, Terry Gill, Carole-Ann Aylett / Phantom Treehouse: Brian Hannan, Beate Harrison, Jason Sole
SYNOPSIS: Two made-for-TV animated rarities from Australia directed by Paul Williams, on one disc.
The Black Planet: Animated sci-fi about two warring countries (basically the U.S. and Russia) in danger of going to war as both superpowers scramble to find oil during an energy crisis. A new star "The Black Planet " is discovered and it seems like it may be a new source for fuel. Comic relief nerd "Freddie" and his women-libber sidekick "Marigold" get involved, mostly by accident, in espionage, spy games and a secret formula. A crooked politician, a sleazy war hawk general and a dictator are all out to get our heroes. Their adventures traverse the globe and beyond in a boat, train, hang glider, helicopter, hot air ballon and rocket ship. An amusing, simply animated adventure. Running time: 1hr 18mins
The Phantom Treehouse: Entertaining children's adventure with a young boy and girl who end up in a strange alternate universe after going through a portal in the titular treehouse. When the girl "Lucy" goes missing the boy "Tom" chases after her with his trusty dog. They search the new land trying to find the lost lass and learn that she's being held captive on a pirate ship by "Black Jack McGregor". The duo meet a talking tree, a magical green bunyip, an absent minded inventor (with a flying machine) and more. There's also a hidden treasure, a musical number and some heavy Australian accents. Running time: 1hr 16mins
