Terminal Choice (1985)
DIRECTOR: Sheldon Larry
STARS: Joe Spano (Disaster at Silo 7), Diane Venora (F/X, Heat), David McCallum (Man from U.N.C.L.E.), Robert Joy (Amityville 3D), Don Francks (Drying Up the Streets), Nicholas Campbell (The Dead Zone), Ellen Barkin (The Advs of Buckaroo Banzai)
SYNOPSIS: A super computer at a large hospital regulates patients' care and medication. Meanwhile, a secret betting pool involving doctors and nurses takes wagers on how much medicine a patient will need, how long they will be on a machine, etc. However, someone at the facility is manipulating the computer to kill one patient after another. Joe Spano stars as a talented doctor, struggling with alcohol, along with Diane Venora as the creator of the super computer. This formerly romantic duo try to uncover the mysterious killings. The string of murders have wide medical variety with patients overdosed, asphyxiated, electrocuted and maimed which will give anyone with a fear of hospitals a bit of anxiety. This film is closer in tone to a thriller like Coma than pics like Horror Hospital or Visiting Hours. Ellen Barkin is memorable as a young doctor who performs autopsies (her demise is particularly sadistic) and Canadian film vet Francks has fun with his character who covertly investigates the hospital staff. A handful of bloody scenes and some brief nudity liven things up as well.
