Street Asylum (1990)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Gregory Dark (aka Gregory Brown) (New Wave Hookers, Fallen Angels)

STARS: Wings Hauser (Vice Squad), Alex Cord (Sidewinder 1), G. Gordon Liddy, Sy Richardson (Nocturna, Repo Man, Cinderella), Roberta Vasquez (Picasso Trigger), Brion James (Blade Runner, Horror Show)

SYNOPSIS: Wild man Wings Hauser plays a Los Angeles police officer who is shot in the line of duty. When he wakes up in the hospital a female doctor with terrible bedside manner tells him he's good to go. Without his knowledge she implanted a rage-causing-device in his back that makes him very aggressive with criminals. He's invited to be on an elite squad led by Alex Cord. All the members have this device in their bodies. When some of the men start going crazy and killing themselves Wings tries to find out who's behind the conspiracy while navigating the garbage strewn, crime-ridden streets of L.A. The movie has a good fast pace to it with the supporting cast throwing themselves into their roles. Especially the great Sy Richardson who seems to be channelling Jack Baker, from Gregory Dark's earlier adult films like New Wave Hookers and Devil in Miss Jones 3 & 4, with his manic over-the-top performance. Watergate figure G. Gordon Liddy turns up as a shady politician and, despite the film's misleading vhs cover, is not an android. Brion James has a small recurring role as a televangelist seen on T.V. screens yelling and preaching. All the (mostly nighttime) exteriors are nicely sleazy with tons of neon, hookers, bums and an overall desolate feel to them.
