Shadey (1985)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Philip Saville (Count Dracula - 1977)

STARS: Antony Sher (Erik the Viking), Patrick MacNee (The Howling), Billie Whitelaw (The Krays, Twisted Nerve), Katherine Helmond (Brazil)

SYNOPSIS: "Shadey" is an odd little man who has the unique ability of holding an 8mm camera to the side of his head, with the lens cap on, and recording people's thoughts, desires and possibly… the future. Once the film is developed it shows mostly stock footage that is of interest to a number of people. Shadey first approaches businessman MacNee who quickly hands him over to the government (including no-nonsense Whitelaw) and the military. They exploit his talent as much as possible but all Shadey really wants is money for a sex change. At one point he requests that his government handler takes him out for a fancy dinner while he's in full drag. Shadey turns out to be more clever than anyone expected. Some consider this British comedy a minor cult film. It's more amusing than laugh-out-loud funny. Katherine Helmond gives one of her weirdest performances (and that's saying a lot).
