Rate it X (1986)
DIRECTOR: Paula De Koenigsberg, Lucy Winer
STARS: Appearances by:Ugly George (Best of Ugly George), Joel M. Reed (Bloodsucking Freaks), Dwaine Tinsley (“Chester the Molestor” creator)
SYNOPSIS: Amusing documentary that explores the place of women in entertainment and media (circa 1986). The female directors find various subjects to interview regarding the portrayal of women in pornography, exploitation, men's magazines, advertising, etc. For the most part the filmmakers let the men do all the talking and give them enough rope to hang themselves. The creator of Hustler magazine's "Chester the Molester" comics comes off well as he gives simple but smart answers to the questions. The editor of Players magazine also has some good insights into women and pornography. Cable TV pervert Ugly George and an uptight preacher have some decidedly dim views on the subject. Advertising execs, a bra company owner, VFW vets and small business owners are also included. There's no narration or onscreen text. Overall it's much more humorous than you might expect with segments coming off like those old interview clips Allen Funt would occasionally do on Candid Camera.
