Palm Beach (1979)
DIRECTOR: Albie Thoms (Sunshine City)
STARS: Bryan Brown (The Empty Beach, F/X), Nat Young, Kenneth Brown, Amanda Berry, John Flaus, Peter Wight (Hot Fuzz)
SYNOPSIS: Surfers, drug dealers, partygoers and criminals drift in and out of Palm Beach in this entertaining Australian drama. Low budget, arty feature with parallel stories that sometimes overlap: a private investigator looks for a missing girl, a friendly loser tries to score a large amount of LSD to sell, and an unstable man (a memorable Brown) commits robbery and murder. People do lots of drugs, screw and go surfing. There's a lot of overlapping dialog where a new scene starts but the previous scene's audio plays over it for a bit. Overall the film has a very documentary feel to it with tons of location shooting in Australia at the beach, local shops and arcades. The accents are thick in this one.
Note: This film is not to be confused with another Australian movie called Palm Beach starring Bryan Brown from 2019!
