Mystery of the Million Dollar Hockey Puck (1975)
DIRECTOR: Jean LaFleur (Ilsa, Tigress of Siberia)
STARS: Mike MacDonald, Angele Knight, Kurt Schiegl, Marthe Thierry, Jean-Louis Millet (Blind Trust)
SYNOPSIS: I'm a sucker for odd 1970's kiddie films and this one is no exception. It's a classic set-up for this kind of film. Some kids try to foil the plot of not-so-smart thieves trying to smuggle stolen diamonds across the border. Since this is a Canadian film the bad guys decide to hide the jewels in a hollowed out hockey puck and slip it in with other equipment on the truck for the "Montreal Canadiens" (appearing as themselves). Then, once it's been delivered, they grab the puck and go. Not so easy when clever orphans Pierre, and his younger sister Catou, discover the plan. It's a game of cat and mouse, thrills and laughs, with the pre-teen sleuths one step ahead of the bad guys. This is a proudly Canadian film as the kids fly over Quebec in a small plane, wander through the famous Winter Carnival fest and end up at The Forum for the film's climax at a Montreal Canadiens game. From the director of Ilsa: Tigress of Siberia(!)
