Mr. Patman (1980)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: John Guillermin (The Blue Max, King Kong '76)

STARS: James Coburn (In Like Flint, Hard Contract), Kate Nelligan (Eye of the Needle), Fionnula Flanagan ("Lost"), Leslie Carlson, Lois Maxwell, Jan Rubes (Curtains)

SYNOPSIS: Here's an interesting thriller that went unnoticed by film fans. It feels like a long episode of The Twilight Zone. A dramatic film with humor where every so often a little something weird happens, moments where things are a little… off. James Coburn is instantly likable as a nurse in a psychiatric hospital. He treats his patients more like friends or family, indulging each one in their personal fantasies and routines. But he clashes with the head doctor who treats the patients like cattle. Coburn lives alone with his devoted fat cat "Paddy" but stays pretty busy screwing his landlady (Flanagan) as well as his co-worker (Nelligan). However, sometimes he sees a strange man in the street or outside his window watching him. He has visions of someone in a bloody car crash and later hanging from a noose. He even gets so fed up he considers helping one patient escape the hospital. The story really pulls you in and it has a satisfying surprise ending. A real forgotten sleeper. Filmed in Canada.
