Kid Blue (1973)
DIRECTOR: James Frawley (Great American Traffic Jam)
STARS: Dennis Hopper (Blue Velvet, White Star), Warren Oates (92 in the Shade, Stripes), Peter Boyle (Joe, Friends of Eddie Coyle), Ben Johnson (Town That Dreaded Sundown), M. Emmet Walsh (Straight Time), Mel Stuart (Kid with the 200 IQ, Bride of Re-Animator)
SYNOPSIS: Here's a great, overlooked, quirky western from 1973. Hopper stars as a not-too-swift robber who tries to go legit. He drifts from one awful job to the next in the one-horse town he settles in. At one point he works in a factory that makes Christmas decorations including snowglobes. He befriends Warren Oates who plays one of his most likable and memorable roles. In one hilarious scene the two take a bath together in a small tub to conserve the hot water. The film is filled with lots of great character actors giving oddball performances like Peter Boyle as a hippy-ish preacher and Ben Johnson as the mean sheriff. A highly recommended sleeper worth checking out. WIDESCREEN
