Death Run (1987)

$20.00

(aka Mutant City

DIRECTOR: Michael J. Murphy (Bloodstream)

STARS: Rob Bartlett, Wendy Parsons, Debbi Stevens, Eddie Kirby

SYNOPSIS: A young man, Paul, and his girlfriend are put into a cryogenic sleep chamber at the start of a nuclear war. They wake up many years later and find a desolate wasteland with mutated cannibals, roving gangs and a crazed ruler. Soon after they enter this new world they're captured and thrown into a makeshift jail at a junkyard. Gang members dress like a cross between an 80's music video and The Road Warrior. Their leader, the Messiah, is a sociopath with deformed hands. He rapes the woman and plans to put the man into the "Death Run", a Running Man type game where a victim is handcuffed to a wire stretching through the woods. They're made to run as various gang members attack and shoot weapons at them. A tough prisoner hatches a plan with Paul to escape during the run. They are successful but realize that killing the Messiah is the only way to a new future. This is a very low budget take on the post-apocalyptic film genre. The British accents are heavy and the action scenes are sloppy… but it is fast paced. The score has an occasional Scorpions-style heavy metal inspired song blasting. Some unintentional laughs along the way too.

Note: This film is in spoken English with unremovable Japanese subtitles.
