(aka Something to Hide)

DIRECTOR: Alastair Reed (Baby Love, Night Digger)

STARS: Peter Finch (The Red Tent, Network), Shelley Winters (Bloody Mama), Colin Blakely (Dogs of War, Operation Julie), Linda Hayden (House on Straw Hill, Baby Love), John Stride (A Bridge Too Far)

SYNOPSIS: Peter Finch lives in a beach house on the Isle of Wight in a miserable marriage with Shelley Winters. She constantly nags and belittles him. One Christmas Eve they both get drunk and a violent fight occurs. We then jump ahead months later and he’s living alone. Winters is overseas and out of the picture. By accident, he meets an underage (pregnant) hitchhiker played by Linda Hayden. She worms her way into his life and house. She stays there for a few weeks and threatens to “tell the police everything” if he kicks her out. They live like this until the baby is born and then things get more complicated. Nosy neighbors and a dark secret in his past soon cause Finch’s life to spiral out of control. It ends on an incredibly bleak note. All the actors are in good form. Hayden does a good as the immature jailbait drifter.
