One Way Out (1987)

$20.00

(aka Crazed Cop)

DIRECTOR: Paul Kyriazi (Death Machines, Omega Cop)

STARS: Ivan Rogers (Ballbuster), Sandy Brooke, Abdullah the Great

SYNOPSIS: Ivan Rogers stars as "Joe Weeks", a Dirty Harry meets Death Wish style cop in this low budget rural wonder. No nonsense detective drinks heavily and plays Russian roulette when he's home alone mourning the murder of his wife. On the job he investigates a drug gang funded by a slimy "legitimate" businessman who has a big black bodyguard played by an actor named Abdullah the Great! Weeks is given a new partner who turns out to be a sexy blonde who we see working undercover and dancing topless at a local titty bar! Joe begrudgingly takes her to a drug bust at a warehouse while an 80's heavy metal song blasts on the soundtrack ("Violent Change" by The Watchtower). Fifteen minutes into the film and Weeks has already killed 4 people. There's one chase scene that goes from the streets to alleyways to rooftops and ends with Weeks fighting four goons by himself. It all ends with Joe trying to save his partner and catch the final boss. There are shootouts, car chases, explosions and fight scenes with Rogers breaking out his high-kicking martial arts skills. The action all takes place in the most desolate locations: warehouses, parking lots, alleyways and dive bars. Leading man Rogers is stiff as a board— rarely emoting one way or another. His reaction to killing someone is the same as ordering a ham sandwich. He also wrote the script. It's all punctuated by a driving synthesizer score and the aforementioned heavy metal song (which is pretty cool!). The film was shot mostly in Indianapolis, Indiana as well as Austin, Texas.
