STARS: Ninja in the Claws of the C.I.A.: John Liu (Death Duel of King Fu), Casanova Wong, Mirta Miller / The Ninja Mission: Krzysztof Kolberger, Hanna Bieniuszewicz
SYNOPSIS: Two obscure action films trying to cash in on the 1980's "ninja" craze.
Ninja in the Claws of the C.I.A.: This film doesn't really have any ninjas but there are plenty of martial arts, training sequences and kung fu philosophy. A martial arts master, John, is recruited by the CIA to teach his secret method of using self hypnosis to soldiers so that they can't feel any pain. There's a great sequence where John demonstrates his technique. Standing in a forest while various soldiers try to attack and hurt him with no luck. Then they send in a sexy woman to grope his body and blow him - and still he doesn't crack! Our hero eventually thinks better of the shady idea and tries to escape to Mexico. Along the way there's lots of exotic scenery, clashes with CIA assassins, sex with his girlfriend and a few laughs. Triple threat John Liu stars, writes and directs.
The Ninja Mission: The ninja craze must have been in full swing in 1984 because it's not every day that you get a ninja movie from Sweden. The story concerns the old favorite of a scientist with a world changing formula who gets kidnapped by evil villains. He was travelling from Russia through Sweden and now the CIA has to step in and fix the problem. They use a group of highly trained Swedish ninjas to rescue the scientist. The ninjas behave more like Navy Seals that just happen to wear black outfits and use a little martial arts. The climatic attack on a snow covered fortress is well done and will satisfy fans of military style action.
