Naked Angels (1969)
DIRECTOR: Bruce D. Clark (Hammer, Galaxy of Terror)
STARS: Michael Greene (To Live and Die in LA), Jennifer Gan (Women in Cages), Richard Rust (Underworld USA), Penelope Spheeris
SYNOPSIS: This forgotten biker film starts off with a gang leader “Mother” (Greene) returning to his club in Las Vegas after being in the hospital for two months. He got his ass kicked by a rival gang and wants revenge. The other members are happy to see him but not too thrilled about his new plans. After some partying and fighting they find out that their enemies are holed up in the desert at a place called “Devil’s Head”. The whole middle section of the film is the gang riding their (road) bikes through the harsh desert. Unprepared, and low on water and gas, they soon begin fighting amongst themselves. Mostly it’s the gang pushing back against Mother’s blind effort to get revenge at all costs. Eventually the gang kicks him out but they all come together again for a prolonged clash against their rivals at an abandoned desert mining camp. The is the Planes, Trains, Automobiles of biker film as it’s mostly the “trip not the destination”. Greene is OK as the mean and unbending leader but his right hand man “Fingers” (Rust) is more believable as a real biker dude. Lots of cool shots of the Las Vegas strip circa 1969. Look sharp for a young Penelope Spheeris (future director of Suburbia, Decline of Western Civilization, etc) as a one of the biker mamas!
