The Wild Pack (1971)

$20.00

(aka The Defiant / The Sandpit Generals)

DIRECTOR: Hall Bartlett (Zero Hour!)

STARS: Kent Lane (Hooper), Tisha Sterling (Name of the Game is Kill), Butch Patrick ("The Munsters"), John Rubenstein (The Boys from Brazil), Dorival Caymmi, Alejandro Rey (The Swarm, High Velocity)

SYNOPSIS: Surprisingly gritty film that spans the gap between Luis Bunuel's Los Olvidados (1950) and City of Men (2007). It's based on the famous novel "The Sandpit Generals" by Jorge Amado. It shows, in docu-drama style, the lives of a group of street kids struggling to survive the harsh streets of 1970's Brazil. Stealing, fighting, running from the authorities and scamming are the skills learned by the young men and boys in these gangs. Butch Patrick turns in a nice performance as a runt named "No Legs". Pretty Tisha Sterling joins the gang as a bit of a mother figure and also provides some nudity. The soundtrack music is pretty great and the finale is harrowing. Worth a look!

NOTE: Onscreen title is "The Defiant"
