(aka Draft Dodger, aka Outside In)

DIRECTOR: Allen Baron (Blast of Silence), G.D. Spradlin

STARS: Darrell Larson (The Manchurian Candidate), Heather Menzies-Urich, Logan Ramsey (The Beast Within, Mean Dog Blues)

SYNOPSIS: After hiding in Canada for a few years Vietnam draft dodger "Ollie" sneaks back into the U.S. (California) to attend his father's funeral. At the cemetery he narrowly escapes two agents waiting to arrest him. He meets up with a few old friends including "Bink" who came back from the war with serious injuries. His pal "Bernard" (the film's most memorable performance) pops pills and works at an adult sex store. He had a soul crushing stint in prison when he was caught trying dodge the draft. Except for a cute hippy love interest most of his family and friends seem to resent him. Nonetheless they offer him a place to sleep and money for food. To be fair Ollie has a decent personality but can't seem to fully understand why people think he's a dick. By the end of the film he grows up and takes responsibility for his actions. Not sure who the audience was for this one. The message is more subtle than you might expect but it clearly is aimed at youths of age who had plans of skipping out of the country. A little action and nudity plus a look inside a Los Angeles porn shop circa 1972.
