SYNOPSIS: Florida set Neo-Noir as Peter Weller gets mixed up with femme fatale Kelly McGillis and her dangerous husband. Retired soldier Weller owns a seedy hotel in Miami and has the hots for sexy Kelly McGillis. Her husband (Milian) was head of the secret police, in the Dominican Republic, and specialized in torture. Now he runs a criminal drug empire from Florida. Weller can't help himself and meets up with McGillis in a seedy hotel to screw. Milian employs Charles Durning to do any dirty work that needs to be done and has him keep an eye on Weller. Durning offers a deal to Weller that involves millions in cash, murder and a chance to run away with McGillis. Despite its reputation, this a pretty fast moving entertaining thriller. The villains are genuinely scary and the violence is believable. All the actors are excellent: Durning, doing a great N.Y. Irish accent, is very memorable as a sweaty, backstabbing, dangerous sleazeball; Fredric Forrest gives a great jumpy performance as an alcoholic guest at the hotel who may be more than he appears; Milian reigns in his usual quirky tics for a mannered low key performance. Based on a book by Elmore Leonard. This version runs at 93 minutes and includes two scenes trimmed for the dvd releases. One scene has two men, with full frontal nudity, being forced into a bathtub and brutally shot in a bloody manner. The second scene involves Tomas Milian forcing Kelly McGilis to strip naked, spread her legs (towards the camera) and he violates her with a loaded gun first in her pussy and then her mouth. The film has a small amount of narration by an uncredited Rene Santoni (Dirty Harry, Cobra, etc).
Note: This version runs longer than any of the dvd releases by 3-5 minutes.
