Desperation Rising (1989)

$20.00

DIRECTOR: Jason Holt (Death Dancers)

STARS: Nick Cassavetes (The Wraith), Tali Laureti, Jason Holt

SYNOPSIS: Amazing, no budget, film with drug dealing gangs, mafia goons and a vigilante squad. Like a straight to video exploitation riff on Short Cuts we have three (or four) sets of characters on a crash course with each other. In one storyline it's a group of mafia underlings who scream all of their lines and have a special "Red Room" where they keep strung out junkies. They keep telling the desperate souls to go steal "small appliances" in order to get another fix! Meanwhile a bored businessman (director Holt) goes to a meeting and a company party before sneaking out to meet a prostitute. Finally, there's a group of vigilantes looking for the gang members who killed their friend's wife. It's filled with awful camerawork, lots of post-dubbing, cheesy video effects, abrupt editing and originals songs (director Holt again) that occasionally drown out the dialog. You'll see prostitutes, a man on fire, kidnap & rape of a young girl, motorcycle jumps, martial arts, shootings and more! One thing I can say is that it's never dull. The original vhs art above seems to be random photo (taken from a car?) that does not appear in the film or feature any of the film's actors.
