ACTS OF VIOLENCE

&

MURDER: NO APPARENT MOTIVE

(1985 / 1984)

Two programs on one disc!

DIRECTOR:
(both programs) Imre Horvath

SYNOPSIS: Two excellent made-for-cable documentaries about serial killers and mass murderers.

Acts of Violence: Early 80's mass murders are covered including James Huberty shooting customers at a McDonald's restaurant, assassins looking for fame (John Hinckley, Arthur Bremer, etc) and finally a long interview with Henry Lee Lucas about his crimes. The interviews are well done with thoughtful questions. Hubert's widow is interviewed and the answers she gives are pretty surprising. Running time: 1hr 12mins.

Murder: No Apparent Motive: This one focuses more on serial killers like "The Green River Killer", John Wayne Gacy, etc. There's a long fascinating interview with Ed Kemper (parts of which will sound familiar to fans of the show Mindhunter). The film finishes with about 30mins on Ted Bundy and his exploits. FBI vet Robert Ressler is interviewed throughout the doc about his work and the idea of profiling criminals. Needless to say some graphic photos and footage is shown in both programs. Running time: 1hr 12mins.
